A New Noise
My bike has a new noise
It’s a creak and a crackle
It rises unexpected
And fades away as quickly
Sharp clusters of distraction
From the steady rhythms
Of legs, and breath, and heart
I need to trace it
To exile its source
And restore the peace
Of wind in ears, and burning legs
But, it is unpredictable.
I cannot cause it with intent
It comes and goes like the
Song of birds as they sing
Each others songs in woods
I can only curiously observe
Until they take wing
I think it is a bearing
Not a direction, but one that spins
perhaps my front wheel is the culprit
